Waldorf Curriculum Journey Part 4 - The Twelve Year Change

12 year old change class 6 Dec 31, 2024
Waldorf 12 Year Change - Twelve Year Change

By the time a child turns twelve, they are on the cusp of adolescence. This phase involves significant physical and cognitive growth. The child, once guided by stories and vivid imagination, begins to seek logical explanations and understand the causes behind events. The desire to understand the laws of nature and the world becomes prominent.

The curriculum now introduces more structured subjects like geology, physics, and history, encouraging children to think critically. This shift aligns with their newfound ability to observe and reason.

In the classroom, children explore themes such as the rise and fall of civilizations, mirrored in the energetic play of Roman soldiers and their eventual decline. This curriculum stage supports children as they move toward adolescence, preparing them for deeper self-exploration.
